EXCITING and Unscheduled Racing Today

Today’s weather changed but the leader board – not so much.

Luna Rosa has continued their ‘not so special’ regatta finishing last out of the gold fleet with zero wins. Origin is only ½ a point ahead of them. Yes that would mean their total score is .5 Today, they had an aggressive start against Damani Itaila and were on the favored right hand side but over the line! They had to go back and it was all over for the Brits. I had talked to Robbie Naismith earlier and he made a good point. “It’s getting all pretty sudden now”. Up until today, almost everyone has raced and there was always another chance. Now it is getting down to the elimination series.
Earlier today 9th and 10th place were decided with Shosholoza ending up in the basement and the Greek team finally getting a win. They are done racing for the regatta. The system is a bit confusing but the teams sitting in 5th though 8th now race off to face teams in 3rd and 4th in the quarter finals and the winner of all of that faces Alinghi for the right to race Team New Zealand in the finals. Today is Monday here and all of this happens in the next 5 days.
Final note on the weather – it is going to rain – and after wearing SPF 50 for the past few days everyone is ‘ok’ with this. Also the rain here is special – kind of like in Hawaii - the raindrops are quite far apart.
