Happy St. Patrick's ... Week

March 15, 2009

Yes I have some Irish ancestry, from the County Cork so it is an authentic celebration.  But I also find it ironic how the rest of the world doesn’t celebrate and we American’s have turned it into almost a week long national holiday.  Ironic or not, I’m taking advantage of the celebration and the 50 degree sunny weather.  I have began the day with a ‘Irish Omelet’ Corned Beef, potatoes, cheese plus a LOT of veggies.  The celebrations in Detroit are in Corktown – the oldest neighborhood in Detroit – and  of a 2 mile walk/run followed by a parade and a few green beers. At the 1 mile mark when all of the walkers were directed to turn right, I snuck into the 4 mile 'run' as I was power walking faster than some of the runners.  So I got in a full 4 mile power walk.  The beer garden and pulled pork sandwich at Slow's Beer Garden was awesome.  My family joined for the parade and overall it was a wonderful day in Detoit wehre everyone ended up with some 'cross cultral experience' as 'Everyone was a little bit irish today :-)
